The UX Office is looking for a front-end developer to join the Design System team. This position will help us develop Rivet, Indiana University's design system for web and software applications.
As a front-end developer on our Design System team, you will:
Establish front-end patterns and practices that ensure accessible and highly usable digital systems and services
Work closely with designers to help grow our design system and keep it relevant
Help refactor the codebase to make it more modular, scalable, and well-documented
Help to make decisions about front-end technologies we'll use to develop and evolve our design system
Write clear, concise, and approachable documentation for every skill level
Lead the development and production of front-end HTML, CSS, and JS systems for the User Experience Office and other units in UITS. Perform analysis, programming, bug-fixing, performance-tuning, testing, and documentation of front-end systems. Identify possible areas of improvement in existing codebases to increase usability and maintainability.
Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and innovation in the development of stable, maintainable, and efficient front-end systems. Develops effective interfaces between systems, creating continuity between disparate University processes. Generates and maintains thorough documentation of front-end systems, seeking and integrating feedback from the IU developer community.
Note: This position is funded for two years with the potential for renewal.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Systems, or related discipline and five years of professional experience working as a software engineer using standard development tools and frameworks.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated ability working with UITS-scale software development. Expert knowledge of team standard development tools and frameworks. Understanding of common design patterns, service-oriented architecture, test-driven development, and agile methodology.
Demonstrable skill in analyzing complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions, specifically as it pertains to production troubleshooting. Experience resolving highly complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas. Enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Customer service attitude and willingness to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment. Ability to work with a variety of people with varying degrees of technical knowledge.
Ability to assume project leadership on team projects and work at the highest level of technical complexity. High levels of accuracy, problem-solving, dependability, and responsibility.
