The School of Media Studies within the Schools of Public Engagement at The New School seeks a Manager of Technical Operations. Working collaboratively with the academic leadership and faculty, the Manager will be responsible for supporting the direction and oversight of the Media facilities in SPE. The Manager will support the implementation and maintenance of technologies impacting pedagogy and curriculum and assists in technology training for faculty and students across all areas within Media. The Manager will also provide specific management and oversight of equipment resources and inventory in the School of Media. This position is a full-time administrative position and reports to the Director of Administration.
- Manage all technology resources in support of film and digital cinema production including equipment purchase, inventory, check-out, usage policies, and repair cycles. - Implement systems for monitoring, documenting, and reporting usage data. - Develop systems for inventory of all equipment with related vendor information. - Oversee the maintenance and upgrade of technology as it relates to the development of Media curricula. - Provide direction in planning and specifying equipment purchases. - Stay current on media and filmmaking trends and technologies and provide recommendations on integration into current practices. - Develop, implement, and conduct orientations, demonstrations, and workshops for faculty, staff and students about equipment and technology. - Record and track budget as associated with all above planning and purchase. - Develop and maintain relationships with key technology vendors. - Coordinate equipment checkout and edit station use for RED Dog Productions. - Oversee server maintenance for RED Dog Productions and school website assets with the IT department. - Provide on-site, real-time supervision of technical staff for SMS. - Hire, schedule and supervise student assistants including on-site, real-time supervision of technical staff for all SMS events. - Participate on task groups as appropriate related to the School of Media's Technical Facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in an area of Media production. - 3-5 years relevant work experience. - Creative and innovative hands-on problem solver. - Strong technology background with expertise in a range of technology, equipment, and materials . - Excellent professional manner and interpersonal skills. - Evidence the ability to multi-task and to work in a fast paced collaborative environment. - Experience with spreadsheet creation, as well as shared-spreadsheets such as in google docs and Microsoft Office suite. - Candidate must have excellent oral and written skills, communication skills, and must be able to work both independently and collectively. - Expertise in equipment and technology related to Media production preferred. - Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, communicate, contribute to a positive learning culture and welcoming working environment, and motivate effectively. - Proven track record of working well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional training, and aesthetic sensibilities.
