About the Position The Associate Director, User Experience will act as a subject matter expert within the broader marketing department. S/he will collaborate with the broader marketing team in the creation of new microsites and mobile applications and the continuous improvement of Kellogg.northwestern.edu. Responsibilities include user needs assessment, experience strategy, information architecture, usability testing and optimization. Most importantly, this position will be responsible for increasing the quantity and quality of prospective students through continual optimization of our website experience.
Work closely with Director, Digital Strategy and business stakeholders to recommend concepts that meet both business and end-user goals. Create personas, use case scenarios, experience maps as needed to define and evaluate concepts.
Provide hands-on leadership from initial information architecture and wireframes to delivering final assets for Kellogg School web and media applications. Deliver wireframes, navigation systems, taxonomies, prototypes, design and functional requirements as needed.
Consult on web- and media-related content,design, and branding and strategies impacting user experience.
Plan and conduct usability testing through prototypes and existing applications to determine requirements for future website/application enhancements.
Participate in the development of and conformance to Kellogg School’s brand standards. Create user interface design standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
4-7 years hands on experience in user-centered design
Experience in user research methods to aid discovery and validation such as heuristic evaluation, usability testing, focus groups, surveys and user/stakeholder interviews.
Work samples demonstrating persona and use case development to wireframes, prototypes and final assets.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to make user experience recommendations based on strong UX diagnostics, create Weekly/Monthly Site Reports (performance, test results, insights UX enhancements and recommendations).
Proficient in related software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Axure
Experience designing for mobile devices.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Higher degree in Visual Communications or related field
Experience working with strategy and production teams.
Experience within a collaborative environment.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Knowledge of data visualization technologies such as D3, Highcharts, Highstocks and Tableau
