The Graphic Designer II, under general supervision, supports various web development projects for marketing and communications needs of the university, including designing and editing graphics/photos for use in multimedia, web sites, and other online purposes. Performs complex graphic design and consultation work.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience in graphic design, web development, print and electronic media, marketing, or a related design field
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expert skill level using Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and AfterEffects
Knowledge of word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet type programs
Understanding of design principles and website design principles
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Understanding of UI/UX principles
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s Degree in a Design or Communications related field, including Communication, Design, Visualization, or Marketing
Three years' experience in design, including print and online media
Experience working in the marketing and communications field
Experience working within brand guides or standards
Experience creating CSS/HTML for websites or email templates
Experience with project management or using a project management tool
Experience building simple web elements in html/css, using Wordpress templates, and building templates in email programs, such as Maestro or Emma
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of principles of Responsive Web Design, processes, and wireframing
Understanding of social media strategy
Ability to create print specifications, obtain print bids, prep files for printing, oversee proofing and production, and perform presschecks
Excellent time management skills
Salary: $40,712.00 - $52,312.00
Uses complex information and data to determine and implement best graphic formats for the most effective visual communication. Creates original illustrations for use in marketing materials, both print and digital. Designs and produces university advertising for both print and digital media. Designs and produces supporting material for conferences and events (i.e., incentive items, displays, signage).
Assists and advises campus communicators with application of university brand guidelines. Maintains current content on the university brand guide website. Designs and produces the campus banner system, working with vendors on quality control. Designs and produces print and digital templates in a variety of software for campus communicators.
Works with the content team to develop wireframes and a site design in accordance with brand guides and campus initiatives.
Designs and produces social media graphics for multiple university channels, according to varying specifications. Designs and produces motion graphics for use in video and other media channels media.
Manages communication and oversees projects conducted with vendors. Obtains pricing, preps files, and oversees production and press checks.
Follows industry trends through blogs, e-newsletters, and social media. Looks for innovative ways to illustrate and share information to the appropriate audiences. Keeps track of trends and news in related areas, such as marketing, advertising, and higher education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
