The Coding Supervisor is considered a system support position that provides leadership, support, and direction, from the Director of HIM Coding, and the staff involved in the health information and records services departments with a special focus on coding. In addition, this position supervises the Revenue Cycle coder work team assignments and responsibilities. The Coding Supervisor works collaboratively with Trinity Clinics, the facility Health Information and Records Services departments, Patient Access Teams, Patient Financial Services, Shared Services, Case Management, CBO, Physicians, hospital leadership and management. The Coding Supervisor is responsible for supporting adherence to CHRISTUS standards and directives and other regulatory requirements including CMS, the Joint Commission, and HIPPA standards related to Christus Trinity Clinic Coding and HIM. As an Coding Educator, this position performs Quality reviews and provides feedback to ensure a high level of coding accuracy. This position also works to ensure that financial performance objectives are achieved that are related to the unbilled process and revenue cycle initiatives. This position is expected to maintain effective professional relationships as appropriate to instruct, share ideas, and implement actions related to HIM functions and improvements. The ability to communicate effectively with all types of people at all levels is critical. This position also acts as a resource to provide education, consultation, and implementation of revenue cycle enhanced processes related to HIM functions.
* Degree in medical record science or medical record administration preferred or equivalent hospital leadership experience required. * Must have extensive knowledge of health information management functions including * Outpatient Hospital guidelines * Charge master coding and compliance Certification in medical coding required * Must possess a general working knowledge in internal integrity requirements and procedures. * Knowledge of governmental, federal, state and local regulations related to billing rules and compliance. * Knowledge of healthcare industry financial statistical indicators. * Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical skills. * Excellent oral and written communication skills required. * Must have practical knowledge of common office software applications including Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.
* Minimum of 4 years inpatient and outpatient direct coding experience preferred. * Previous project management experience preferred * Experience as a coding auditor/reviewer. * Familiar with billing/charging rules. * Experience with associate education. * Experience with Joint Commission standardsDegree
