The Life and Health Sciences (LHS) Division is comprised of the Marian Koshland Bioscience, Natural Resources & Public Health Library and the Fong Optometry & Health Sciences Library. The division collections provide comprehensive coverage of biological sciences, natural resources, entomology, forestry, paleontology, energy, biochemistry, public health, optometry and vision science.
The LHS Division collections serve the University of California, Berkeley, Division of Biological Sciences, the College of Natural Resources, the School of Public Health and the School of Optometry. Core constituents consist of approximately 400 faculty and lecturers, 1200 graduate students, 3500 undergraduate majors. The collections are heavily used by campus researchers, laboratories, biotechnology companies and community patrons.
The Life and Health Sciences Division offers instruction for course-related classes, workshops, specialized tours, and graduate student orientations for departments served by the library. The Bioscience, Natural Resources & Public Health Library web site is a gateway to specialized resources and tools, ebooks, ejournals, research guides, links to campus, state-wide and national resources.
The Serials Processing Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day record maintenance of the Bioscience, Natural Resources and Public Health Library serials collections. In addition, this individual will assist in strategic projects related to storing single shared print copies and digitization of the library’s continuing resources.
•Enters new incoming issues into Millennium •Updates holdings and order information for serials in the Millennium system •creates Item records for serials in Millennium •Corrects volume, copy, and location fields and updates 866 Holdings record summary holdings fields •Maintains workload statistics for daily serials tasks. •Performs pre- and post- processing for successive entry changes (SEC's), new serial titles, and closes and withdraws serials. •Submits BadCat online requests for serial bibliographic record corrections and requests for online access to current serials for which electronic access is available but not yet set up. •After print cancellation, prepares remaining unbound issues for binding. •Reviews serial titles for eligibility by checking Melvyl, OCLC/First search and other RLF tools. •Attends meetings and represents LHS Division interests at pertinent University Library meetings such as bTech•Knowledge of library catalogs, integrated library systems, bibliographic records, and monographic and serials processing policies and procedures. •Related experience with technical processing in libraries including updating item and holdings records. •Ability to complete detailed work accurately, prioritize tasks and complete projects on time. •Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and in writing), work in a team with good organizational skills •Experience with standard office and collaboration software (MS Office, Google Drive). •Demonstrated excellent attendance record
