The Division of Periodontology is looking to add a 40% (2 day per week) Dental Hygienist to its dental team. This role is vital to the team in working with Hygienists, Dental Assistants, students, externs and faculty to provide exceptional patient care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities of this role: • Provide periodontal maintenance, oral exams and care to patients that have had periodontal treatment. • Provides local anesthesia/nitrous oxide analgesia as needed. • Examines and cleans teeth, completes a caries exam and oral cancer screening. Treats periodontal disease and cares for other oral conditions as instructed by a periodontist/periodontal resident and in accordance with the rules mandated by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry. • Work with periodontal residents as to how a hygienist is utilized in practice. • Instructs patients in oral and dental hygiene. Performs a preliminary examination of the oral cavity and surrounding structures. Points out potential treatment needs to the periodontist/periodontal resident for their evaluation. • Prepares the operatory for the next patient. Sterilizes and cares for dental instruments, supplies and medications. • Takes dental radiographs and occasional intraoral photographs. Records and updates findings of examination in the patient’s electronic record including pocket depths and attachment levels. • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment • Schedules patients for recall appointments in the periodontal clinic in cooperation with other personnel in the department. • Other duties as assigned.
Hourly Salary Range: $30.04 to $38.44 USD/hour

Required Qualifications: • Graduate from an accredited dental hygiene program and currently licensed as a hygienist in the state of Minnesota. • Current CPR/BLS certification. • Must be able to multi task and adapt to changing work environment and work responsibilities. • Demonstrated/documented knowledge of electronic record keeping and digital radiography and its use. • Successful experience providing dental care to a diverse patient population.
Selection Criteria/Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in a busy dental clinic or practice atmosphere with multiple providers. • Ability to work with a variety of faculty, staff, residents and students and promote a respectful work place. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work well in a team setting. • A minimum of one year experience preferably in a perio practice or similar background. • An individual capable of independent work without immediate supervision is essential.
