University College coordinates existing university resources and develops new initiatives to promote academic excellence and to enhance student persistence.
The mission of the Office of Student Employment is to support the Division of Undergraduate Education by empowering students to pursue and to succeed in meaningful, academically relevant college work experiences that enhance both academic and professional growth.
This position will manage the use of reporting technology, publications and other means of information dissemination to support the success of students as it pertains to student employment. Coordinate all technology-related programs and services for the Office of Student Employment. Provide leadership and coordination for all assessment activities and generate all reports that demonstrate the impact of students as valuable employees, the number of IUPUI students working for on-campus employers, and showcase the impact of student employment experiences on IUPUI students. This position will work with two large scale initiatives that aim to provide academic and high impact work experiences for students. From budget oversight, marketing, training and orienting site supervisors, to assessment of program success, this role has complete project management responsibility for the initiatives. Opportunity to teach/co-teach Student Employment credit course when needed.
Duties and responsibilities:
Coordinate and execute the On-Campus Internship program which concentrates on hiring sophomores for academically relevant or professional-level work experiences in on-campus departmental settings. Coordination would include the budget management, recruitment of sites and job descriptions, site visits, supervisor orientation/training, student facing outreach, support, marketing and data analysis of program success and growth. Oversight of the over existing $50,000 budget and work to increase budget availability from new sources is expected.
Manage, maintain, and update technology resources for use in student employment including electronic check-in, tracking and keeping records. Develop database record keeping managing student traffic. Generate reports.
Coordinate and execute the Hire Achievers program, a major campus initiative, which concentrates on hiring and maintaining a high impact practice with the undergraduate student positions. This project oversees a budget of around $150,000, coordinates all assessment, site selection, application approval by campus departments, training and on-going outreach to student work sites.
Work with University College Director of Assessment and the Director of Student Employment to provide leadership and coordination for all student employment assessment activities and reports. Oversee all the efforts to assess the effectiveness of offered services, initiatives, & programs. Develop a five-year plan/timeline for assessment of student employment. Design and implement surveys, focus groups and other methods of data collection. Write reports of outcomes and provide documentation/data. Assist in analyzing results. Develop a plan for communicating results of assessment with various constituencies including students, advisors, degree-granting schools and higher administration.
Supervise student employees employed through student employee program. Supervision functions include workforce & budget planning, recruiting, hiring, orientation, training, performance management, and student employee engagement.
Develop and coordinate use of technology to support student services including reports, project management and workflow, email, instant messaging, virtual advising, and event tracking.
Work with IRDS staff and the Director of Student Employment to provide leadership and coordination for all student employment assessment activities and reports.
Deliver individual and group employment and professionalism advising services to students through appointments and presentations. Teach and or co-teach a section of the Office of Student Employment's Excellence in Professionalism course, a one-credit hour course each semester or as needed annually.
Serve as participating member of IUPUI Internship Council to represent the Office of Student Employment. Purpose of service is to maintain knowledge of best practices for internship programs, develop campus collaborations to expand the on-campus internship program sites and stay aware of campus policies and hot topics as they relate to internships.
Develop and maintain strong understanding of university, local, state, and federal policies which impact student employment and student employee supervision on campus (i.e., sexual harassment, discrimination, Fair Labor Standards Act, etc.). Work in conjunction with Employment Consultants in Human Resources Administration to refer and provide appropriate resources and guidance as needed.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution, plus 3 years of experience in higher education, assessment, career services, job development/workforce readiness, recruitment, training and development, or other relevant experience.
Master’s Degree. Experience in data analysis, planning development and training activities, project management. Knowledge of Tableau software.
