Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our goal is to drive scalable solutions for better care at critical moments in people's lives everywhere. Better care means better health outcomes, lower costs, and more actual caring. Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care.
Under the direction of the Director, the Writing and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for generating stories and other forms of content for the website, publications, reports, and external communications. We are seeking a writer interested in developing a deep understanding of Ariadne's research, implementation projects and mission in order to write with authority for public audiences. The writer will be expected to comfortably read research publications, conduct background research and conduct internal and external interviews in order to craft profiles, features, news stories, announcements, research summaries, blog posts and other content to support organizational communications. Assignments typically require a sophisticated, compelling writing style and capacity to translate scientific content into engaging stories. A writing sample is required for consideration.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Stay fully informed of new developments in Ariadne Labs
Develop strong working relationships with researchers and PIs
Read Ariadne research papers and do secondary research to supplement stories
Innovate on different approaches to writing and communicating information
Attend Ariadne Labs events to report on them in story form for the website/newsletter
Write high-quality engaging content for the website to include features and news on research, research summaries, program overviews, profiles of faculty, and other organizational content
Write for the Ariadne Labs Medium blog
Contribute the content for Ariadne Labs newsletter
Write content for brochures, annual report and other Ariadne Labs marketing/fundraising materials
Work with digital media coordinator to craft social media content based on stories
Maintain a writing calendar that anticipates and plans for significant upcoming events for which content is needed
Contribute as needed to other organizational writing needs
Other duties as assigned
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of 1 year from date of hire, with the possibility of extension. PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a writing portfolio and complete a writing sample. PLEASE NOTE: This is a part-time, benefits eligible position with a 17.5 hour work week.

3+ years of related experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered
BA/BS in English, journalism, public health or related field is strongly preferred
Thorough familiarity with AP Style, MS Word, Google Docs preferred
Experience working in a matrix organization/environment preferred
Experience working in an academic or healthcare setting strongly preferred
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with the Google information environment is preferred (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, etc.)
Experience writing a wide variety of content for print and digital media preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Positive, flexible, professional, and a can-do attitude preferred
Self-direct own work preferred
Experience conducting interviews with scientists, physicians and researchers preferred
Demonstrated experience at writing about public health, medical, health or science-related topics preferred
