The School of Public Health (SPH) is a large and complex professional school at UC Berkeley, with a mission to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. The School is comprised of six academic divisions and 30 research centers and programs, with over 200 faculty, 120 academic/research staff, 155 management/professional/ administrative staff, and 285 student researchers/instructors/workers. The School offers a core MPH degree with nine areas of study, along with five MA and MS degree programs, a DrPH and five PhD degree programs, and five concurrent programs with other UC Berkeley schools and colleges; in addition, the School offers a joint degree with UC San Francisco. The School launched UC Berkeley’s first on-line degree program in 2012 and is rapidly expanding the program to reach a wide range of domestic and international audiences through online degrees, certificate programs, and executive education. The School enrolls approximately 825 graduate students per year, as well as educating roughly 440 undergraduate students through an upper-division public health major. The School's more than 13,000 graduates can be found working throughout the world, in both the public and private sectors.
The Administrative Officer 2 works closely with the Director and Associate Director to conduct, promote, and support the CE Programs many public educational offerings. This role involves assessing educational needs and interests for targeted learners, and developing programs, materials, and trainings for occupational and environmental health and safety professionals.
This role involves managing or performing the administrative services or managing the full general operations of an academic or non-academic organization(s). Administrative services includes activities in event planning, project management, communications (such as marketing and social media), finance, IT and student services, registration logistics, new business development, and on-line and other advertising opportunities. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff, compliance with continuing education accreditation and regulatory requirements, and grant deliverables. Key Responsibilities •Administers a defined operational program or activities, which may include some of the following functions: finance, event planning, student services, communications, informational technology or safety, marketing, delivery of training, monitoring curriculum for compliance, designing and overseeing registration process and on-site logistics. •Work with CE Director and Associate Director to recruit, select, orient, evaluate, and supervise qualified courses and program instructors whether on site or online. Contributes to fund raising or grant writing as needed. •Will serve as Program Coordinator for contracted state government training programs. •Assess and recommend changes to maintain compliance with accrediting organizations, federal and state requirements and internal UC policies. •Gathers and analyzes financial and other resource data; prepares reports or analyses of operational activities, evaluation of current and proposed services, etc. Works with supervisor to develop and maintain budgets. Functions as a resource on issues such as researching complex financial discrepancies, escalated customer service problems and vendor concerns. •Participates in the development of programmatic strategic planning and management of continuing education courses to ensure success. Participates in development and revision of standard operating procedures and guidelines. •Administers the design and drafting of CE website content. Handles marketing and communications (social media, etc.) for the program. Education/Training: •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training This is an 80% FTE, Contract appointment. The duration of contract will not exceed 18-months.
