Essential Job Duties:
This position will join the members of the Research and Evaluation Services unit to ensure effective implementation of grant and evaluation projects and to facilitate engagement opportunities with new and existing clients. The primary areas of expertise will include knowledge management, research, client business assessments, organizational development, and training.
As an IES Extension Specialist, the incumbent will lead fee for service projects with business clients and also partner with specialists from other units to determine areas of synergy among priority programs and establish protocols as well as develop and deliver materials and assessments grounded in the Trusted Advisor Model.
The Project and Organizational Development Specialist will exercise broad technical support over designated technical product(s) seeking to identify and secure business and partnership opportunities – both short- and long-term. He/she will exercise discretion and judgement when making a decision. Standard NC State University and IES guidelines will be followed for routine work. Normal and authoritative advice will be sought to insure an informed decision.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
This position must possess the ability to:
Leadership: Provide leadership in establishing and managing the assessment of client needs in order to determine gaps and make recommendations to clients on improvements to efficiency and effectiveness of the program (s)/organization as a whole. Establish and deliver externally-funded, applied research and evaluation services. Monitor designated service delivery goals.
Project and Organizational Development: Introduce, develop and deliver new products and services following the established IES New Product Development process. Design, develop and deliver organizational development programs supporting teams, leaders, and businesses.
Project Management: Serve as a project manager for federal and non-federal grants and research/evaluation projects, as assigned. Maintain and enhance professional relationships with internal team and external clients and stakeholders ensuring on time delivery of grant goals and objectives.
Technical Service: Understand client culture and work relationships to address issues and determine viable solutions. Provide clients with a recommended course of action to address complex organizational or programmatic challenges and facilitate engagement and leadership programs. Provide advanced facilitation and content delivery on a variety of topics and needs.
Promotion: Advocate for IES services via assessments, site visits, and presentations. Work closely with University-based partners, representatives from other national engineering extension programs, managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and customer and stakeholder expectations.
Administrative Duties: Ensure project accountability and quality assurance through preparation of regular reports to clients and the IES Research and Evaluation team. Manage appropriate documentation as required by outside funding sources and/or clients. Develop and manage budgets and client contracts, as assigned. Supervise students, as assigned.
Master's degree in education, public administration, organizational development or organizational leadership (or related fields) preferred.
A minimum of five years experience in executive leadership, training and development, internal and external consulting and program / project management preferred, with a minimum of three years experience in the following instructional / consulting topics preferred: leading and managing change, leadership and management structures, effective communication, conflict resolution and succession planning, with certifications in these areas a plus.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing custom leadership development and organizational development solutions. Working with executive leaders in the development of strategic solutions.
