This Science Writer will responsible for:
The writing and editing of articles, science related material, social media content and collateral materials that cover basic, translational and clinical research.
Identifying potential stories, collaborating with researchers, and writing portions or the majority of feature articles and supporting materials for the Hospital's research communication vehicles.
Translating journal articles into pitches for external facing content, as well as translating scientific terminology and concepts for clinical, scientific and lay audiences.
Coordinating writing projects that require production and design collaboration with the Manager of Communications, Senior Science Writer, communications team and Graphic Designers, as well as with any additional outside design assistance.
Ensuring all written materials are consistent with the graphic standards of the institution.
Following scientific and health journals, research presentations and other sources to identify the Hospital's authors and assess news value.
Supporting the writing needs of other functional areas in the department, as needed.
To qualify, you must have:
A Bachelor's degree in communications or in a closely related field and at least 4 years of experience in science and medical writing (or equivalent experience in directly related work in a health care setting).
A baseline of experience creating optimized digital content.
Skill with a broad range of writing encompassing the internet, blogs and newsletters.
The ability to bring stories to life while talking to all age brackets and utilizing multi-media approach (content, photos, press releases, video).
The versatility to understand and translate scientific concepts into clear and compelling lay language.
A deep curiosity and interest in meeting regularly with researchers onsite at labs.
Demonstrated abilities to proofread and check documents for accuracy on a consistent basis.
Experience with regularly inputting/retrieving words or data into or from an automated/computer system.
