The Human Resources Generalist will provide a wide range of supportive HR services to the college community and will be an integral member of the HR team. This position supports faculty and staff with various questions and concerns including new hire questions, benefits, payroll, timekeeping and retirement, along with performing other HR Generalist duties/projects while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local laws, University Human Resources policies, procedures, practices, etc. throughout the college/office/department. The ideal candidate will have experience in many facets of human resources including but not limited to: onboarding, recruiting, training, performance management, reporting, project management, HRIS transactional processing, and payroll/timekeeping. They must be comfortable working with customers at all different levels of an organization, answering questions on: hiring and recruiting, policy interpretation, procedures, benefits, and other HR related topics. The candidate will be the initial contact for Human Resources office walk-ins, and will provide support to faculty and staff with various human resources questions and concerns or by properly referring questions to another team member. The position will complete daily work, process improvements, and projects as assigned by HR Director and/or Sr. HR Generalists which will be completed both individually and/or collaboratively with the HR team and CoD members to contribute to the strategic mission of the college. Additional administrative responsibilities include supporting the onboarding process, ordering supplies, reconciling financial statements, processing student employees, volunteer, and visiting scholar hiring, and updating the organizational chart. Additionally, this position provides high level HRIS backup processing from the Human Resources Action (HRA) list to ensure and maintain data integrity and that all transactions are accurately and timely entered into the PeopleSoft system. This position serves as the backup for the time and leave process for the college, including processing biweekly and monthly payroll, identifying discrepancies and exceptions, verifying that additional pay is loaded correctly to the timesheet; resolving paycheck discrepancies; processing leave payouts; running reports; and completing additional university payroll requirements. The ideal candidate for this position will have proven success working independently and as a collegial member of a team; exhibit professionalism and timely, professional and effective communication through interactions with customers; to consistently deliver 'exceptional' customer service. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for maintaining a high volume of work and varying priorities and deadlines. This role requires the ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information, and exercise considerable discretion and judgment in all matters.
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May rarely work evenings and weekends.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions. This position requires sustained periods using a keyboard and performing other computer work. Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 3-5 years of broad experience in human resources and two years at Ohio State or another public entity; experience in processing HR actions; advanced experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) applications; strong attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information, and exercise considerable discretion and judgment in all matters. Proven history of 'exceptional' customer service and an excellent team player; ability to multitask in a fast paced environment while understanding priorities and deadlines; able to 'think outside the box' in order in improve efficiencies and able to independently research topics.
Advanced experience at Ohio State handling timekeeping/payroll and processing actions into PeopleSoft; prior experience working with faculty, staff and Graduate Teaching Associates (GTAs); experience with project management and Visio.
Target Salary: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 Annually
