Community Medical Center RWJBarnabas Health is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.
Community Medical Center (CMC) is a 592-bed, fully accredited acute care hospital offering area residents highly sophisticated medical treatment close to home. Opened in 1961, CMC has evolved into the state’s largest nonteaching hospital and Ocean County’s largest and most active health care facility.
Community Medical Center offers a comprehensive array of services, including advanced cancer care, state-of-the-art neurology and neurosurgery services with a neuro-interventional lab and a bi-plane, and cardiac care featuring three cardiac catheterization labs. surgical services feature two da Vinci robotic surgical platforms including the latest generation da Vinci Xi, and the Mako robotic?arm assisted system for joint replacement surgery. CMC offers technology typically not found at a community hospital, including a 3-Tesla MRI, digital mammography, the Rapid Arc linear accelerator (one of the most sophisticated linear accelerators used for radiation therapy), a CyberKnife for treating inoperable tumors and the Veran Lung Navigation System.
CMC is one of the area’s most trusted providers of maternal and children’s services, offering superior obstetric care, a Level II special care nursery with 24/7 onsite neonatologists for newborns requiring special care, a midwifery program, a dedicated pediatric unit, and a pediatrician in the emergency department.
The Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring that the highest quality of care, patient safety, and evidence-based medical standards are practiced at CMC. As a key member of the hospital’s senior leadership team, the CMO will be a visible leader responsible for providing strategic and clinical leadership through expertise in quality and patient, physician alignment and medical staff relations.
The CMO must be able to build and nurture collaborative physician relationships, provide leadership in quality and patient safety, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. The successful candidate must have the ability to effectively build trust and relationships within the existing team and maintain a calm demeanor and steady composure during times of change, while exhibiting a high degree of emotional intelligence.
The Chief Medical Officer provides leadership and guidance in coordinating clinical performance improvement, resource management, and quality-related activities of the hospital. S/he is also responsible for integrating both quality and cost information through data-driven initiatives and provides leadership in developing and implementing physician alignment strategies for the region. Critical to the success of this role will be the ability to foster positive interdisciplinary communication between the hospital, the formal Medical Staff, and RWJBarnabas Health.
Key measurements of success will include: 1) the ongoing pursuit of a continuous quality- and service-oriented culture, 2) building of effective partnerships with CMC’s highly credentialed and diverse medical staff; 3) in partnership with others, establishing and achieving financial goals for the hospital based on industry best practices for both quality and cost of care; 4) serving as an active participant in Community Medical Center and RWJBarnabas Health’s efforts related to healthcare reform and the movement from volume to value.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Medical degree required. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey. Master’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, public policy or relevant field is preferred.
Outstanding reputation and credibility as a clinician, well-versed in current medical literature and research and with a reputation as a strong leader with a track record of success.
7+ years of demonstrated leadership experience. A track record in working with a large, diverse and highly credentialed medical staff to ensure the highest quality of care, patient safety, and evidence-based medical standards. Track record of success in working with voluntary, employed and contracted physicians.
Proven expertise in internal and external customer satisfaction and the ability to manage expectations of multiple constituencies. A commitment to enhancing patient satisfaction and improving customer service, accompanied by demonstrated experience in working with medical staff and nursing leadership to promote and sustain service excellence.
Experience with The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.
A high level of personal transparency, integrity, and the ability to serve as a role model to others.
