Reporting to the Director of the Laboratory Schools and serving as an integral member of the senior leadership team, the Associate Director of Schools, Finance & Operations Officer (ADoS) provides strategic leadership in the development of the Laboratory Schools financial management strategy and helps lead the development and accomplishment of the organization’s strategic and mission-critical goals through execution of strategies and key specific imperatives. In addition to the strategic components, the ADoS is charged with developing and implementing consistent policies and procedures for finance and operations of the Schools. The ADoS works closely with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders, including the Laboratory Schools’ senior leadership, University senior administrators, the Laboratory Schools’ advisory board, and parent groups. The AdoS will build and maintain working relationships with University constituents and acts in the place of the Director of Schools where appropriate. The ideal candidate will complement the Director’s experience, style, and knowledge base. Strategy, Vision, and Leadership
Advise the Director and other key members of Lab’s senior leadership on financial planning, budgeting, operations, and policy matters.
Serve as the management liaison to the Laboratory Schools’ board and other University administrators; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select board and committee meetings.
Lead the development and implementation of the Laboratory Schools’ strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Director informed of all critical issues. In the absence of the Director, assume full responsibility for all aspects of the Schools.
Serve as chief spokesperson for the Schools during collective bargaining negotiations.
Lead school accreditation processes, ensuring the proper allocation of resources.
Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance and operations teams, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Operations, Registrar, and Family Life Programs.
Provide mentoring and guidance as a cornerstone to the team’s career development using a supportive and collaborative approach through assigning accountabilities; setting objectives; establishing priorities; and monitoring and evaluating results.
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit, and retain required members of the team.
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
Oversee master-planning activities related to facilities positioning the Schools as a leader in sustainable resources.
Supervise the planning and implementation of all building and renovation plans.
Ultimately responsible for decision making and consultation with University Facilities Project Management group, architects, and construction representatives during major construction projects.
Ensure that Lab’s information systems, infrastructure, and applications are effective, secure, and supported for users throughout the organization.
Oversee and partner with senior leadership to guide the strategic vision of non-academic programming.
Lead and support the planning and execution of expansion to international programming.
Oversee safety and security programming.
Liaison with the Office of Legal Counsel on all contracts, disputes, and concerns.
Financial Management and Planning
Oversee development and communication of the annual budget and the long-term financial planning and projections for the Schools.
Plan, coordinate and execute the annual budget process.
Develop and maintain documentation necessary to inform Lab’s board and the finance committee periodically on the financial matters relating to the Schools.
Analyze financial data and prepare financial reports for presentation to Lab’s board and its committees.
Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures partnering with central University functional areas to ensure adherence to a unique financial and regulatory environment.
Ensure that the Schools adhere to the strategic plan, delivering status reports to the board.
Provide analytical support to the senior leadership team, including the development of internal management reporting capabilities.
Develop and implement data analyses, data collection systems, data dashboards, and other strategies.
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in a complex data set.
Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses.
Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten years progressively responsible administrative experience required.
Master's degree in business, accounting, non-profit management, or related field strongly preferred.
People management experience required.
Experience with strategic planning and execution required.
Experience leading multiple and diverse teams required.
Budget direction experience required.
Financial management experience required.
Experience working with collective bargaining agreements within a unionized environment strongly preferred.
Experience working in a university and/or Nursery–12th-grade school setting preferred.
Standard office environment
Ability to sit for 2 hours to 4 hours.
