Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Housing Services The Housing Services unit of CHES provides direct service and programs to 1,100 residents in six Associated Residential Community Housing (ARCH) communities which support single students and students with families. The unit provides comprehensive facilities support to the ten residential colleges, dining services facilities and the ARCH communities. The unit provides numerous other services supporting the campus-wide housing program, including Student Housing Services (Contracts, Marketing and Communication for over 9,500 student bed spaces that generate over $115 million in auxiliary income annually), Community Safety, as well as off-campus student housing support, and summer conference operations.
Housing Services is responsible for Executive management, planning and direction for the following areas:
The six Associated Residential Community Housing (ARCH) complexes Housing and Dining Facilities Operations for the campus housing program Student Housing Services Marketing and Communications for the campus housing program Community Rentals Office Conference Services Early Education Services Community Safety Operations
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Housing Services, the incumbent will provide a high level of strategic planning and organizational development, project management, project analysis, performance management, staff recruitments, and onboarding of new staff. This position requires the ability to work with insight, tact, political acumen and diplomacy when interacting with constituents within Housing Services, CHES, BAS, UCSC and external communities. The incumbent works independently with a high degree of confidentiality, and is responsible for providing organizational support to the Executive Director. The incumbent must manage a complex workload with competing priorities while effectively working with a diverse population both within the University system and in the public sector.
Qualifications include: Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and organizational development for a multifaceted organization.
Proven experience with project management and demonstrated experience working on projects from conceptualization to completion.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, problems, and processes in an objective manner and formulate conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, select appropriate courses of action and make recommendations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to independently manage a variety of projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a large, highly diverse and multifaceted management team and interface with a wide array of senior administrative office personnel.
