Bryn Mawr College Library & Information Technology Services (LITS) has a new position for a part-time Makerspace Coordinator. The successful candidate will be part of the Digital Scholarship, Critical Making, and Digital Collections Management department, and will have oversight of Bryn Mawr’s new makerspace (located in the newly renovated Park Science building). The Makerspace Coordinator will have the opportunity, in collaboration with LITS and other staff colleagues, and faculty and students across the College, to shape the space and its services, and will be in charge of hiring and supervising student employees, developing training programs for student employees and users, and designing workshops to engage students and members of the community. We are seeking an energetic and independent person who is passionate about making and educating others in making, with experience with makerspace equipment like 3D printing, CNC routers, laser cutters, and woodshop tools.
This position is 20 hours per week, with some benefits (paid time off, retirement contribution, and short-term disability). Located in metropolitan Philadelphia (a short train ride from Center City), Bryn Mawr College is a distinguished liberal arts college for women with graduate programs in social work, humanities, and science for men and women. 2-5 years’ experience with making activities.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially and effectively with a diverse population of staff, faculty, and students.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision, as well as collaboratively with teams.
Good written and oral communication skills.
1-3 years’ experience managing and training in a Makerspace-type environment.
Experience using, maintaining and training others on 3D printers, CNC routers, laser cutters, and other digital fabrication and standard woodshop machinery.
1 or more years’ experience managing students or other employees.
Experience working in educational context.
