Each year, Colgate University plans and sponsors a vibrant array of events, exhibitions, and programs in the visual, performing, and media arts. These events enhance student learning in Colgate's academic curriculum; engage students' creative capacities; and entertain, educate, and enlighten members of the campus community and the general public.
The Arts Coordinator will partner with relevant campus stakeholders (including members of the faculty and administration) to: facilitate curricular collaborations among and between academic departments; support event development, planning, and execution; and collaborate with the Office of Communications to facilitate strategic marketing, publicity, and community outreach efforts with appropriate audiences.
This position reports to the director of the Division of Arts and Humanities, which is one of four academic divisions under the auspices of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
-Coordinates efforts and activities that deepen the connections between Colgate's visual, performing, and media arts events and the academic curriculum, as well as facilitates awareness of public arts programming both on campus and in the community. -Devises and executes strategies that advance Colgate's identified goals for the arts, and in particular the aims connected to its integrated arts initiative. -Ensures that arts materials produced are consistent with university editorial, branding, and style guidelines. -Measures and documents progress and effectiveness of plans and projects. -Works with students both to support their efforts in the creative and performing arts and to help make the arts central to their college experience.
Technical Competencies -Demonstrated ability to serve effectively as a central point of connection and communication among individuals, departments, groups, and organizations devoted to arts and cultural event and program planning – as well as with academic representatives who work intersects with the arts – to ensure that faculty, students, and event sponsors are aware of such connections and make effective use of them. -Demonstrated ability to identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration across arts departments and programs. -Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with campus service providers to ensure that arts events planning is coordinated with other university planning. -Demonstrated ability to facilitate coordination of event scheduling among appropriate representatives who mount arts events (including concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and special programs) in order to prevent conflicts and maximize access and effectiveness for each. -Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student groups to coordinate their performance schedules with other events on the campus. -Demonstrated ability to identify connections with classes in the Colgate curriculum, relevant faculty, and groups on campus to whom such an event is likely to be of special interest, along with audiences outside of the immediate Colgate community. (All Colgate arts events are free and open to the public.) -Demonstrated ability to work with departments and programs, in addition to curricular opportunities, to devise and coordinate program strategies to attract students and/or the local community/general public to arts events and programs. -Demonstrated ability to research and identify funding opportunities for arts programming and contribute to such proposals, in coordination with Colgate's grants office. -Demonstrated ability to identify to the Office of Communications regarding noteworthy happenings that reflect the vision of the faculty and build Colgate's reputation for the arts. -Demonstrated ability to effectively build community outreach programs. -Demonstrated ability to build collegial partnerships with regional arts organizations, other higher education institutions that advance the arts. -Demonstrated ability to assist departments and programs in marketing and promoting events. -Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with the Office of Communications to develop a deep understanding of university messaging and visual standards for assisting in appropriate communications. -Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a regional outreach program (contacts and mailing lists). -Demonstrated ability to identify effective strategies for enhancing the profile and visibility of the arts at Colgate, while working collaboratively with faculty involved in the arts and the Office of Communications.

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required.
Master's in Arts Administration (or related field of study) or equivalent experience is required.
- Professional experience in visual, performing, and/or media arts administration and program development in support of academic efforts, preferably in a higher education setting; OR, conversely, relevant experience in program administration in other fields within higher education or non-profits combined with significant experience with the visual, performing, and/or media arts. - Understanding of and familiarity with strategic events marketing and publicity. - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, especially in articulating the educational value of the arts - Proven experience in event planning. - Demonstrated ability to deal with diverse constituencies, competing interests, pressure, and multiple projects. - Strong project management, interpersonal, and customer service skills. - Demonstrated ability to manage budgets effectively. – Demonstrated ability to use relevant technology platforms. - Willingness to work a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends. - Must be capable of working collegially with diverse groups of faculty, staff, students and community members.
