Position Summary: At the California Digital Library (CDL), we believe passionately that the library, in all its forms, is critically important to the vital work of students, scholars and the public. As a University of California systemwide library, CDL provides services to and on behalf of the UC system as a partner and collaborator to the UC campus libraries. As a globally-connected digital library, CDL occupies a unique position between the local UC campuses and the global digital library infrastructure. The user base for CDL services and programs includes UC faculty, students and library staff; the patrons of the consortia in which the UC Libraries participate; and the many people worldwide who benefit from UC's open access offerings.
As a member of the Licensed Content Group within the CDL's Collection Development and Management Program, the Shared Content Service Coordinator communicates with UC campus librarians and collection development officers to identify their information needs, negotiates with content vendors, drafts UC systemwide subscription/purchase proposals, supports senior-level discussions, provides outreach events and workshops related to CDL collection development activities, and informs UC librarians on CDL-licensed resources totaling nearly $50M annually. The position reports to, and receives direction from, the Assistant Director for Systemwide Licensing.

Duty 1: Coordinate, organize, and participate in discussions with key advisory groups. Work with UC campus librarians to determine areas of UC systemwide interest, establish priorities for digital content acquisition, and resolve problems.
Collaborate internally and externally, deliver information about completed agreements to the UC community via CDL newsletters and other means, and answer questions. Prepare reports for UC campuses, summarize negotiation outcomes, and update relevant websites.
Promote understanding of UC license agreements, pricing and cost share models, licensed resources, and CDL activities effectively through a variety of programs.
Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with campus library staff and collection development officers. Recruit Tier 2 champions, i.e., campus librarians who manage multi-campus renewals licensed by campuses, as needed.
Provide support at committees such as the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) on Shared Collections and Shared Content Leadership Group (SCLG) by updating committee members on negotiation status, taking notes, drafting proposals, and managing voting processes. Duty 2: Obtain and evaluate digital content, pricing, terms, technical functionality, and background of vendor products and benefit to UC.
Negotiate prices and terms for purchases and renewals. Achieve highest value, in terms of content, access, and price. Consult the Assistant Director for Systemwide Licensing as needed. Convey and explain CDL licensing principles, technical requirements, and needed functional enhancements. Capture the negotiated terms in license agreements, and ensure that those terms are executed by working closely with other members of the Licensed Content Group.
Compile and maintain documentation on legacy and new products, cost-sharing arrangements, price increase trends, vendor performance, etc. Function:Vendor Relations and Negotiation Percent: 30
Duty 3: Develop project plans including goals, deliverables and timelines. Work with project teams to prioritize and implement work plans. Provide periodic progress reports outlining key activities and progress toward achieving overall goals. Participate in and/or lead CDL and UC Libraries systemwide task forces.
Assists with related functions and works on special projects as assigned, such as producing reports or announcements for the UC library community, and participating in the life-cycle management of electronic resources. Function:Project Management and Special Projects Percent: 30
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Minimum three years of experience working with electronic resources in academic libraries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong negotiation skills. Minimum three years of experience negotiating complex subscription/purchase agreements for a variety of digital content, e.g. e-journals, e-books, databases, etc.
Demonstrated experience with content sourcing and licensing; familiarity with the pros and cons of various licensing models.
Demonstrated experience in engaging with library staff and/or users in higher education institutions. Experience of running events and workshops.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to build consensus.
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of current developments in the areas of digital content, including OA publishing.
Strong written communications skills to draft clear, accurate and concise reports. Strong oral communication skills to effectively convey and explain information.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility.
Advanced level of proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word.
Ability to travel occasionally, engage professionally, and attend meetings and conferences as appropriate. Required
Advanced degree in library and information science, or a related discipline.
Experience working with electronic resources in a collection development capacity and familiarity with academic library acquisitions operations.
Experience negotiating open access (OA) offsetting deals. Preferred
