The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Injury Prevention Research Center is seeking a programmer who will support multiple epidemiologic research studies using large electronic medical records, health insurance claims, death records and other large secondary datasets with millions of observations over decades of data collection. The programmer will specifically work on research projects related to prescription opioid-related disorders and overdose prevention. Proficiency in management of large datasets, statistical analysis, documentation of analytic decision making and effective communication with study investigators will be key to the success of this position. Specifically, the successful person will,
1. Manage, clean and develop analytic datasets for statistical analysis while providing interim reports of data quality. Provide data quality reports as requested.
2. Conduct statistical analysis and develop results tables under the guidance of study investigators, provide critical input regarding statistical methodology and potential analytic solutions, and review analytical input and out to ensure that the validity of the analysis.
3. Document analytical decision making embedded in SAS programs while conducting data management and analysis. Develop accessible and comprehensive documentation of data management and analytic programs for ongoing use by the study investigators.
4. Manage multiple programming tasks across different research projects, coordinate workflows and deadlines with the investigators, and communicate and collaborate effectively, efficiently, and clearly.
Education and Experience:
Required skills: - At least two years of demonstrated work using SAS and/or R - Experience managing and analyzing large, complex, multi-level, healthcare data like health insurance claims and electronic health records - Experience with statistical analysis procedures within SAS and/or R (SAS preferable) - Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for the planning, management, and analysis of complex data in a data-driven project - Strong project management skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently - Exceptional interpersonal and professional communications skills. Must be comfortable working closely with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred skills: - Minimum of five years of SAS coding experience in a work environment - Experience in writing SAS macros for analysis of large healthcare data - Experience working in opioid overdose prevention research - Experience with epidemiological research data - Experience with advanced statistical analyses e.g., survival analysis - Knowledge of data security best practices - Graduate education in computer science, biostatistics, MPH, or similar degree
