Summary: As the McNair Scholars Program Director (85%), this position is responsible for all aspects of the McNair Scholar Program, including: program design and implementation, strategic planning and assessment, McNair Scholar recruitment and support, staff supervision and development, budget management, grant preparation, and federal reporting requirements. The Director of the McNair Scholars Program will design, implement, supervise, and monitor program activities and outcomes in accordance with federal regulations and program objectives, serving as fiscal manager for program budgets, including budget planning and expenditures, and budget revisions in consultation with the Director of OURS. Additionally, as the Associate Director of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (15%), the position coordinates unit assessment, collaborations with GVSU TRiO programs, and advises students interested in research and scholarship. We seek candidates with a demonstrated awareness of and commitment to, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a partially grant funded position.
Minimum four years’ experience in higher education administration, academic and/or counseling capacity, program design, project management, strategic planning and evaluation at the college level;
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to first-generation students, and/or students from historically underrepresented groups in higher education and a demonstrated ability to effectively advise and advocate for those students from the target population in a college setting;
Knowledge of higher education academic programs and support services and effective practices supporting student recruitment, retention and development;
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills;
Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education.
Degree or coursework in student affairs, social work, counseling, higher education, or a similar field;
PhD, or equivalent degree preferred;
In-depth understanding of the mission of the TRIO Programs;
Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate students;
Experience in reporting and budget management;
Demonstrated ability to work with faculty from all disciplines;
Experience in financial aid counseling and academic advising;
Clear understanding of the graduate admissions process;
Experience in managing and tracking student services, budgets, program assessment and evaluation and communication with constituents;
Experience in strategic planning and assessment;
Experience in developing and supervising staff;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and others.
