Posting Summary: The University of Virginia School of Architecture (www.arch.virginia.edu) is seeking qualified candidates to join its faculty for a non-tenure track teaching faculty position (Academic General Faculty, AGF) to begin in Fall 2019. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching design studios at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels, as well as lecture courses, seminars and/or labs in one or more of the following areas of specialization: (1) Graphic Design or Visual Communication; (2) Fabrication, Industrial or Product Design; or (3) Interaction Design and Media. Experience teaching within a school of architecture or design is desirable. Successful candidates will also assume an active and participatory role in helping to develop the School of Architecture's emerging undergraduate concentration in Design Practices and Design Thinking.
Ranked general faculty are equivalent to Professors of Practice with renewable appointments, benefits, and a teaching load of 50-100% full time depending on the appointment. All ranked general faculty members at UVA are expected to teach, work with the Dean of the School and the Chair of Architecture in developing curriculum, and serve on a range of School-wide committees, while pursuing an agenda of design research and creative production.
