A research associate (postdoctoral) position in the area of Evolutionary Computation is currently available at the BEACON Center for Evolution in Action and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI under the supervision of Dr. Wolfgang Banzhaf. The topic of research will be to examine tangled program graphs as a representation of computer programs for Genetic Programming in time dependent applications like computer game playing.
The successful candidate will be hosted at the BEACON Center of Michigan State University. The position is limited to 6 months.
Doctorate -Computer Science
Candidates will have completed a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, or a closely related field by the position start date. Candidates need to possess good computational/programming skills and must have a strong motivation for academic research.
A PhD. in Computer Science, with a specialty in Genetic Programming are required for a candidate to be successful. Candidates should have experience with Tangled Program Graphs for Human-Competitive Game Playing (TPGs, with an emphasis on applying them to game suites like the well-known Atari computer games, as well as the game suite by Google DeepMind). A successful candidate will also have experience with the emergence of game-playing strategies steering them towards human-competitive player behavior and standard Deep Learning algorithms as they have been promoted in recent years.
