Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Institute for Transportation(InTrans) is seeking applications for an Assistant Scientist IV. The Institute for Transportation (InTrans) is a $17 million research organization at Iowa State University that includes seven centers and seven programs. InTrans conducts transportation-related research and outreach, and addresses the education and workforce development needs of future transportation professionals. InTrans' mission is to develop and implement innovative methods, materials, and technologies for improving transportation system efficiency, safety, reliability, and sustainability while improving the learning environment of students, faculty, and staff in transportation-related fields.
This position will focus on research and development in the area of intelligent transportation systems with an emphasis on emerging trends and technologies. The incumbent selected for this position will be responsible for implementing the CTRE Traffic Operations Lab (REACTOR) research plan and participating in other research activities. This individual will design machine learning based solutions and implement them on cloud/on-premise framework, train & mentor graduate and undergraduate student researchers. The incumbent will be part of a dynamic research team committed to excellence and will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects. The position will involve software architecture design, developing big data batch analytics and stream analytics based solutions for transportation affiliated problems, perform analytical studies, analyze and visualize data, design and implement custom code, supervise graduate and undergraduate student researchers, write research proposals, reports and papers, provide feedback on proposed research plans, and present research findings. This position will work collaboratively with other researchers and receive instructions, feedback and support on project objectives and research plans from principal investigators and project managers. This position will be expected to lead transportation research, manage data, lead development of complex reports.
