SPECIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program for library/information science -- or an accredited archives studies program/related field -- with a minimum of two (2) years of professional archival experience. Demonstrated knowledge of current archival standards, vocabularies, and management systems, and an understanding of emerging technologies and preservation strategies for digital collections. Understanding and ability to stay abreast of privacy, confidentiality, copyright, and other legal concerns associated with institutional records. General knowledge of art history and/or historical research methods. Ability to lift, shift, and shelve boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Head, Richardson Memorial Library, the Archivist works collaboratively across all museum departments to preserve, arrange, and make accessible the institutional records of The Saint Louis Art Museum. The Archivist provides research service and reference assistance, coordinates archival activities according to best practices and standards, and participates in the Museum’s records management program.
DUTIES, WORK PERFORMED:
Manage the Archives Program of the Saint Louis Art Museum:
Manage and administer the Museum’s archives program, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures, effective workflows, and training
Work collaboratively with Museum colleagues to plan and conduct record appraisals, develop retention schedules that meet the Museum’s administrative, fiscal, historical, and legal obligations
Participate in the Museum’s Records Management Program, advise regarding care and control of records
Plan and implement physical and descriptive processing of archival collections according to professional standards and practices
Provide research and reference services, participate in Museum projects related to collections access
Assist in developing strategies for preserving electronic and born digital records important to the Museum’s history
Determine priorities for physical care and conservation of archival materials, advise regarding space planning and appropriate preservation environments
Perform other duties, as required
