Department/College Description Teaching and Learning Services (TLS), a unit of the Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) at RIT, furthers faculty teaching effectiveness and student learning.
TLS partners with RIT faculty to improve and expand their students learning experience with on-campus, online, and blended courses. TLS supports faculty in designing courses, applying appropriate academic technologies, developing media, and using classroom technology resources.
TLS also fosters experimentation with and adoption of emerging modes and models of teaching and learning, contributing to cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary collaboration at RIT.
Detailed Job Description The Manager of Learning Space and Classroom Technology is responsible for the processes and procedures related to designing, provisioning, installing, and maintaining deployed technologies in RIT's learning spaces and other strategic locations. The manager works collaboratively with ILI staff, the RIT community, and external partners to shape learning space strategy.
The person in this role will have a wide-ranging knowledge of learning space design and will be able to incorporate technologies into these environments. In addition, they will be able to work effectively in the information technology space and will be able to balance the relationship between audio/visual technology and IT.
Manage day-to-day classroom technology operations. Includes reviewing, improving, and documenting Classroom Technology team processes and protocols to better meet the needs of users.
Manage learning space project portfolio coordinating resources to ensure project goals are achieved.
Consult with clients (academic and non-academic) on the design of space and integration of audio/visual technology. Ensure that all designs are sustainable, usable, and meet user goals. Negotiate with internal and external teams to ensure designs are understood, implemented, and communicated accordingly.
Work with ILI Leadership and RIT partners in identifying opportunities to enhance operations, improve learning environments, and increase faculty satisfaction.
Research, benchmark, evaluate, and provide recommendations regarding audio/visual technologies and learning space concepts that promote the best possible learning experience.
Manage budget and track capital assets for classroom technology.
Oversees work of Classroom Technology Supervisor to hire, train, schedule, supervise, and regularly assess the performance of a team of students, including Co-ops, with a high level of technical skills to assist with classroom equipment performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, field repair, and site security.
Manage learning space projects through the project management lifecycle from project proposal to project close including: requirements gathering, project planning, RFP, bid selection, developing milestones, delegation of tasks, tracking budget, monitoring timelines, communications, and ensuring quality.
Diagnose malfunctions and supervise repair and maintenance of installed and delivered equipment. Verify successful repair and maintenance of equipment.
Provide technical support for supported technologies in person, over the phone, or at the support desk. Work with ILI staff to identify issues that can be proactively addressed with documentation and training.
Required Minimum Qualifications
5+ years experience providing direct service to others
5+ years experience planning and coordinating materials and projects
5+ years management experience
3+ years experience in IT related field (systems admin, integration, support, programming, or similar
Knowledge of best practices in learning space design
Extensive knowledge of AV technologies, emerging technologies, and their appropriate application to teaching and learning
Proficiency with project management principles, tools, and processes
Ability to lead, moderate, and guide groups with clear objectives to build consensus, facilitate work sessions, and negotiate solutions
Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment, define problems, draw conclusions, and propose solutions
Ability to maintain strong working relationships with campus clients, faculty/staff partners, and vendors
