The Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine (CBSSM) seeks a skilled and highly self-motivated individual to support multiple faculty investigators focused on research projects related to 1) designing, implementing, and evaluating educational interventions to optimize patient-provider communication and chronic kidney disease care, and 2) other projects as assigned.
*Please note this is a term-limited position for two years, with the possibility of extension based on the availability of funds and need.

Assist the project manager and principal investigator with study coordination, including tracking project aims and progress
Manage project meeting schedules for diverse research project teams and take detailed meeting minutes
Assist with the development of working protocols; create data collection forms and tracking databases in Qualtrics, REDCap, and Excel
Assist with data collection and evaluation activities, including the recruitment and enrollment of research participants at health clinics, online, by mail, or phone
Track research participants and maintain accurate and detailed study records, ensuring compliance with study protocol
Assist with the development, pilot-testing, and administration of surveys in person, online, by mail, or phone
Prepare documents for human subjects approval, including informed consent forms, institutional review board applications, amendments and continuing reviews, as well as data use agreements, in a timely manner and in accordance with all regulations
Conduct data management tasks such as entering and cleaning data
Conduct review of medical records to abstract data elements and enter them into a database
Conduct qualitative coding and preliminary qualitative analysis of interviews
Assist with quantitative survey data analysis and interpretation of results
Coordinate the payment of research participants
Draft, proofread, and edit documents, including manuscript sections, presentations, and reports
Conduct literature searches and summarize the medical literature on specfic topics, as relevant to existing grants and the development of new ones
The ideal candidate will show personal initiative in managing work assignments by organizing, independently prioritizing work, and completing tasks while meeting deadlines. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team and regularly exercise judgment in the application research protocols is a must. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills; a person who is approachable and compassionate and has the ability to think on one’s feet in sensitive or difficult situations. We are seeking a candidate who fully understands the issues of confidentiality and privacy in the conduct of research. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
Bachelor’s Degree in a field of social science (e.g. anthropology, psychology, sociology, social work, public health) or the field of engineering/project management
1-3 years of human subjects research experience
Previous experience or training in social science data collection methods and survey research
Demonstrated previous experience and proficiency in subject recruitment and interviewing
Previous experience and proficiency using formulas and functions in programs like Excel and REDCap to create databases
Previous experience and proficiency in collecting, managing, and assisting with the analysis of quantitative and qualitative research data
Master's Degree in a field of social science (e.g. anthropology, psychology, sociology, social, public health) or the field of engineering/project management
Previous experience or training in quality systems improvement initiatives
Experience and proficiency using qualitative and quantitative data analysis software programs (i.e. NVivo, MAXQDA, Dedoose, SPSS, or Stata)
Experience and proficiency with survey development software such as Qualtrics
Experience working with individuals in emotionally difficult situations (such as dealing with serious illness or diagnosis of a new chronic illness)
Previous financial management experience with sponsored (e.g. grant funded) awards
Previous experience developing, preparing, and submitting grant proposals for the consideration of state and federal agencies and private foundations, including developing grant budget proposals
