JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the design, layout, and test circuits using SMD and IC chips to implement technologies for different projects at the center. Expected to have working knowledge on using PCB fabrication machine, e.g. though-hole plating, etching, solder mask and all other machines related to PCB fabrication. Writes software/firmware based on the design boards. JOB DUTIES: 20% - Essential - Work closely with Sensor Engineer in developing schematic and circuit designs. Design electronic enclosures for the electronic boards using 3D CAD software.
20% - Essential - Maintains all the PCB fabrication/Parts placement machines and the 3D printer at the center. Monitor the functioning of equipment and make necessary modifications to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications.
20% - Essential - Confer with Sensor engineer and consult specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance characteristics of the overall system.
30% - Essential - Work with Sensor Engineer to evaluate electronic design submitted by clients prior to fabrication. Clients will be either from within Clemson University organizations or from small and medium electronic companies in SC.
10% - Essential - Supervise temporary employees and assists Graduate students and teaches them how to properly operate all lab equipment in a precise and safe manner. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture or engineering technology. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Acts as Lead - Acts as a Lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: BSEE/BSComEng Degree.
Minimum of 2 years high performance, high speed/high density and value conscious PCB layout experience with mixed-signals circuits. Digital PCB layout knowledge using Eagle CAD.
Master's Degree - MSc preferred and/or BSEE/BSComEng Degree. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Working knowledge on PCB layout including EMC and EMI, knowledge of RG components including amplifiers, attenuators, phase shifters, and filters a plus. Experience with test equipment including Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Newwork Analyzer, Mixed Signal Oscilloscope.
