Lesley Art + Design began as The School of Practical Arts over 100 years ago. Since our founding in 1912, we have educated students for professions in the arts by balancing personal aesthetic development and intensive studies in the humanities with practical career preparation. Our challenging curriculum emphasizes solid foundations in traditional art and design principles, time-proven methods of creative process, and strong intellectual concepts. We have seven BFA departments and two MFA programs, as well as programs for high school students to earn college credit.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
A core faculty in the Digital Filmmaking Department, with 7 units of workload, teaching undergraduate required and elective courses. Mentors and advises undergraduate students, organizes and participates in department and school activities for students, serves on school and university committees and attends meetings as required; participates in curriculum development, and assists with student recruiting including attendance at visit days, admission open houses and portfolio reviews. Must be enthusiastic, flexible, and collaborative, with excellent communication skills. Must be adaptable and willingness to grow as filmmaking tools evolve. Must be open to a variety of narrative and non-narrative forms of filmmaking. The film program is rapidly expanding, the new faculty member will need to be able to support the core curriculum, as well as create and support a robust filmmaking community. Our students are very collaborative and community-oriented, and core faculty must be able to foster and support various forms of student engagement.
Requirements (Education, Experience and Skillsets):
Master of Fine Arts degree is strongly preferred, candidates with Bachelor’s degree plus significant professional experience in filmmaking will be considered.
A minimum of 5 years successful University teaching experience or equivalent professional practice with a strong commitment to teaching, and be able to teach courses from foundation to senior level.
Must demonstrate meritorious professional and scholarly achievement, and must provide evidence of outstanding leadership in the academic community & professional specialty.
Capability to teach in a variety of areas of contemporary Digital Filmmaking practice, and in-depth understanding of a broad range of contemporary practices, theories, concepts and applications in the film and television industry.
Ability to teach best practices for professional career tracks in filmmaking, and the ability to foster internship opportunities and contacts for students.
Knowledge of storytelling, screenwriting and story editing for film.
Ability to lead multiple student projects through the stages of film production, from writing and pre-production through editing and post-production.
Proficiency with digital video cameras, lighting, live audio and directing for cinema.
Proficiency in non-linear editing software, preferably Adobe Premiere; and working knowledge of editing practice and techniques.
Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at Lesley University.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
