We are looking for a motivated self-starter interested in a great opportunity to hone their systems administration and security skills in a business environment, while also having the opportunity to work on an array of other projects expanding their experience and knowledge.
The role of the Systems and Security Administrator is to provide project leadership and technical expertise in the design, development, implementation, and administration of server systems that support the mission of Campus Recreational Sports (CRS) and its 900+ employees. They oversee 10+ production servers and dozens of systems that support CRS in many different ways from member and data management to scheduling and reporting. This role also provides security model design for the totality of the computing environment, including, but not limited to installation, process development, performance tuning, refinement, and new technology research.
Serves as a senior point of escalation for troubleshooting problems, working directly with the vendor or service owner if necessary to resolve issues. Provides a high level of consultation and mentoring to other groups in the organization and IT staff on the use of technologies, software, and security principles. Ensures that systems and security model documentation is created and well maintained and leads the technical design and configuration of new or altered server systems.
Prepares cost and capacity planning studies concerning existing systems and the acquisition and implementation of new technologies. Serves as project lead for enterprise level technology related projects and develops project plans, coordinates and oversees staff assignments and tasks. Acts in the stead of the IT Director when requested. Maintains security at the highest level by ensuring that security standards and protocols are recognized and followed.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, or related field and three years of experience in software and hardware systems development and/or system administration.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Expert knowledge and experience with server operating systems such as Windows Server and developing and maintaining system and user security. Knowledge of computer systems, storage systems, network systems, advanced virtualization, and software interfaces. Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy. Experience with network configuration of firewalls working with network protocols such as TCP, UDP, SMB, HTTP, etc.
Fundamental project management in a systems development environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge in a highly professional manner.
Strong organizational skills including ability to work in a detailed, technical environment, while maintaining focus on objectives, and producing accurate results; and multitasking skills essential for managing multiple priorities and changing demands.
Demonstrated project leadership and technical trouble-shooting skills; and proven ability in teaching problem solving techniques and analytical skills to analyze and solve customer needs and requirement. Self-motivated and able to work independently or within a team concept.
Working knowledge and experience with industry standard programming/scripting languages and tools; Development and administration of databases such as but not limited to Microsoft SQL Server; Knowledge of role based access control methods; Experience technically or functionally supporting applications; Experience in business systems within higher education; Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures and guidelines to support operational processes; Experience supporting hardware, software, or mobile devices in a desktop computing setting.
