Works as part of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS) electrical engineering electronics and instrumentation division of Machining and Tech Services. Designs, develops, manages and supervises the construction of complex electronic circuits, control systems and engineering projects. Manages the installation, repair and calibration of technical laboratory equipment. Other duties as assigned. JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Program Management : Directs the engineering design, drawings, plans, fabrication, and specifications for electrical engineering electronics and instrumentation division. Projects include: electronic circuits and control systems for complex electro- mechanical research apparatus, controls, and data acquisition systems as related to Undergraduate, Graduate, and Sponsored Research projects in CECAS, other divisions on campus, and external users. Develops processes to inspect samples of engineering materials. Advises and assists in the performance of electro-mechanical design and fabrication for all projects under his/her supervision.
20% - Essential - Coordination: Provide assistance for project completion through working with team members within the division to provide feedback and improvement to designs. Work closely with faculty in research initiatives, direct work as needed to other team members based on their skill level. Work as part of the team with other engineering and technical support staff in their design, fabrication , and maintenance of research projects and equipment.
20% - Essential - Consultation: Consults and advises faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and technical staff with solutions to design and repair issues with complex engineering design problems and technical laboratory equipment. Advise on equipment specification and appropriate budgeting for research related equipment. Consult with project managers, facilities maintenance technicians and contractors on both large-scale and small-scale electrical infrastructure system repairs and installations.
10% - Essential - Mentor and Train: Provide guidance and design recommendations to undergraduate and graduate student groups for research related to complex electro- mechanical, controls, and data acquisition systems. Provide in-depth training to faculty, staff, and students in the use of hardware and software packages used for electrical engineering design, controls, and data acquisition. Coordinate training opportunities for technical support staff and direct reports to improve research and student support capabilities.
10% - Essential - Equipment Maintenance: Directs the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of technical laboratory equipment. Manages, oversees and coordinates testing by service engineers in the repair and installation of specialized equipment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture or engineering technology and entry-level engineering or architectural work experience. RESPONSIBILITIES:
