The Cardiovascular Interventional Radiologic Tech (RT) assists in all procedures performed in the Cardiovascular Intervention Center and is a member of the Cath Lab team. The Cardiovascular Interventional Rad Tech performs the radiological procedures at a technical level. He/She is responsible for positioning the patient and fluoroscopic equipment as needed to obtain optimum views of all relevant anatomy during procedures. He/she provides a safe patient care environment, maintains and operates the physiological monitoring/recording system for both interventional cardiac and complex electrophysiology studies, is responsible for monitoring radiation exposure levels during all exams and ensuring that technical factors appropriate for the given procedure are utilized. Assists physicians by functioning as scrub tech or circulator, maintains film library, archives all digital images and documents all actions taken by the Cath Lab team. He/she is responsible for being able to setup and operate all interventional equipment within the department that may be required for a given procedure including but not limited to: Right and Left Heart Catheterization with dual transducer simultanous intra vascular pressures, Biopsies, Flow studies, Angioplasty, Stenting, Atherectomy, Valvuloplasty, Septostomy, ASD closure, PFO closure, Embolization, Electro-Phisiology studies, Trans-Septal Ablations, Pacemakers, ICD implants. He/she is responsible for observing all health and safety standards as required. The Radiology tech teachs/trains and mentors staff as assigned.
