The Department of Art and Visual Culture (AVC) in the College of Design at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a lecturer position in Biological and Pre-Medical Illustration (BPMI) program starting January 1st, 2019.
Responsibilities include teaching in the BPMI program as needed. More specifically, teaching BPMI 326, Illustration and Illustration Software a foundation—intermediate level scientific illustration digital rendering in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, including digital workflows, scanning and digitizing work, digital rendering techniques, and best practices and protocols. Qualified candidates will bring new approaches, tools, and techniques to digital rendering while maintaining principles of scientific illustration.
The successful candidate will have the ability to distill complex content for effective visual presentation; knowledge of visual conventions applied to a variety of subsets of art, science, and design; and ability to teach in an interdisciplinary setting.
Required Education and Experience:
MFA in scientific/medical illustration, or related field OR BFA in fine/visual/studio arts + masters in related discipline
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Teaching experience in higher education. -Trained in traditional and digital techniques and visual communication principles. -Experience in digital media and digital rendering as well as scientific illustration/visualization. -Evidence of professional development must be presented, including professional practice examples, exhibitions, publications, and workshops.
