Advertised Summary Job Description: The School of Professional Studies (SPS) is seeking a Senior Media Production Manager who is passionate about creating meaningful visual experiences that support: - academic content - marketing and other public-facing content - collaborative work with SPS partners - other SPS initiatives
This role requires a demonstrable aptitude for video editing. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of production management for an educational organization and a commitment to the mission of digital and online education.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (100% of total job)
A. Work within appropriate standards as determined by the Director of Media Production to make informed decisions with a holistic view of the school's media needs and resources: - Define and accomplish the goals of the SPS media team - Effectively represent our team in a professional manner with great attention to detail - Play an active role in all phases of media creation: design, pre-production, production, and post-production including, but not limited to: - design / planning, scripting, scheduling and locations, coordinating crew members and participants, arranging transportation, setting up camera and lighting equipment, shooting, wrapping of equipment, editing, communicating with outside vendors such as captioning services and media hosting vendors (Panopto), exploring the use of innovative tools and technologies.
B. Create assets in support of determined learning objectives: - Participate in framing discussions to help determine the role of media in course designs - Provide ongoing support and training for instructors, students, and staff
C. Play an active role creating content and providing support for: - Dean's projects - Marketing and other public-facing content - Livestreamed events - Ad hoc requests, and other relevant support
D. Manage and supervise external entities - May be expected to help find, supervise, perform relevant paperwork and make other arrangements associated with students and temporary workers - May be responsible for all aspects of vendor contracting and management, including working with SPS Finance and other entities around the school.
E. Work with SPS Partners - Facilitate excellent support and maintenance of relationships with partner schools or others requesting our services (Teachers College, UTS, SIPA, Business School, Social Work, etc.) - Foster relationship development and expansion of the SPS network - Engage with other colleagues at Columbia University
E. Support continuous improvement with a deep knowledge of SPS media needs and resources - Investigate best practice examples for online media production - Incorporate widely accepted best practices for risk management and compliance with the American Disabilities Act, Fair Use Standards, etcetera - Research and incorporate new, relevant technologies - Utilize creative decision-making about the incorporation of new and existing media formats - Identify and implement practices that help streamline our processes in the effort to meet financial goals - Think critically about workflow and practice to help identify creative solutions for process improvements
General Minimum Qualifications: -A Bachelor's degree. -A minimum of three years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: - Professional experience with video, audio, and/or photography production work -- candidates should be able to provide a link to an online portfolio - Demonstrated expertise with Adobe Creative Suite Software and / or Final Cut - Ability to play an active role in multiple projects and communicate effectively with stakeholders on a cross-functional team and deliver results under prescribed deadlines and changing demands - Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, project tracking, and customer service - Aptitude for the adoption of new practices and technologies as the team continues to evolve
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in the production of commercial and/or marketing materials for clients outside of the educational realm - Creating innovative media plans and assets to support evidence-based instructional practice - Experience with the Canvas LMS or similar - Usability testing / other research techniques - Live streaming - Deep knowledge of: Panopto, Vimeo, Youtube, varied social media formats, other forms of media-related hosting and tools
