This position is a member of the Berkeley Law Human Resources team and partners with Campus Shared Services (CSS) and Central Human Resources to recommend, develop, implement, administer, coordinate, and/or evaluate Human Resources policies, labor contracts, statutes, programs and procedures covering several of the following: recruitment, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, payroll, benefits, welfare programs, training and development, visa procurement, intercampus transfers, and employee services.
Applies advanced HR concepts to counsel managers and supervisors on HR issues, employee and labor policies, procedures, and appropriate practices.
Reviews job classification or reclassification requests for adherence to campus job standards, organizational needs at the School of Law, and HEERA compliance.
Reviews requests for salary adjustments and consults with Director of Human Resources.
Will serve as internal lead to initiate and oversee staff recruitment and/or waivers of recruitment in partnership with Campus Shared Services (CSS). Will partner with CSS and Finance on any temporary agency staffing needs. May review and assist with contracts for outside vendors. Will coordinate with CSS to ensure that jobs are posted and advertised in locations ideally suited to attract target candidates.
Tracks organizational change and updates organizational charts as needed. Partners with CSS to update and maintain Position Management data and information in Human Capital Management (HCM) system as needed.
Reviews resumes and job applications, and/or interviews applicants for senior level positions, or assists with staff interviews as needed.
Conducts highly complex and varied analyses of issues or concepts, such as compensation analysis or FLSA changes, and develops resulting recommendations to the Director of Human Resources and/or senior management, employing political acumen and integrating information to recommend courses of action and possible implications.
Counsels employees or supervisors concerning sensitive and difficult to resolve work-related problems and recommends to senior management systemic remedies such as training, changes to organizational practices and procedures.
Serves as internal lead and partners with Central HR and CSS on employment and labor relations actions; may represent HR and/or the School of Law at hearings and grievances, and/or: •Conduct basic information gathering and policy interpretation; •Provide advice, counseling and mediation services; •Resolve or escalate concerns as appropriate; •Identify and recommend referrals to other campus resources (e.g. Ombudsman, Path to Care, Title IX Office, OPHD, etc.) as appropriate.
May conduct exit interviews following termination, separation or a transfer, providing feedback to management, and recommending changes to department practices as appropriate.
As technical leader provides guidance and training to managers and supervisors on benefits, compensation programs, personnel policies and procedures.
Works with senior administrators as needed on highly complex re-organizations and staffing objectives to meet strategic or budgetary goals.
Collaborates with the Director of Human Resources, and provides support to managers and supervisors in administering policies and programs in the areas of employment, labor relations, wage and salary administration, disability management, benefits and leaves, training and professional development, and other areas of HR.
Regularly serves on campus-wide HR committees to counsel on new HR initiatives and to help determine appropriate campus HR strategies, policies, and practices.
Provides direction and guidance to other HR Generalists as needed; effectively and collaboratively interacts with diverse client groups and at all levels on campus.

Education/Training: •Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
