Essential Job Duties:
The Instructional Designer (ID) will provide effective pedagogical consulting, design, and development assistance to NC State Industrial Extension Service. This position will be responsible for working with subject matter experts, using their expertise, in the development of courses and programs. This position will contribute to course design, development, and assessment so experience with challenging instructional design assignments and expertise in designing and producing effective learning environments and instructional materials is essential. The position will perform the following:
Work with subject matter experts to develop templates for course design, effectively translating learning objectives into dynamic content.
Construct learning environments that promote interaction, social presence, and community among students, and between students.
Assist with the design and redesign of courses for delivery, including the incorporation of Web 2.0 tools for instruction, communication, and collaborative student engagement.
Design effective learning activities and authentic assessments that encourage critical thinking skills and self-directed learning.
Develop instructional design professional development opportunities for IES staff.
Engage in professional development to further academic goals and pursue publishing and/or conference presentations to advance the knowledge base of the research.
Partner with other colleagues and development teams within IES in researching, brainstorming, developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative and pedagogically sound solutions for addressing instructional challenges.
Provide formative and summation assessment to evaluation clients, including community colleges.
Utilize time and project management skills for assigned projects.
Collaborates with various technology units and other support units of the university to advance project design, development, and evaluation.
Contributes to internal staff development initiatives by providing instructional design support and consultations and assisting with presentations and workshops delivered to staff.
Work with both internal and external clients to meet requests for instructional design support for seated, online, and blended training and learning environments.
Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple concurrent projects

Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Ability to integrate various levels of evaluation into the instructional design.
Experience with technical writing, teaching/training, performance measuring, multimedia, curriculum and course development.
Ability to work independently or on a team.
Knowledge of adult learning principles and cultural diversity aspects of instructional design.
Ability to incorporate collaborative learning and various forms of experiential learning in instructional designs.
Familiarity with the unique challenges of designing instruction for various instructional delivery methods (face-to-face, hybrid).
Ability to generate organized documentation of instructional design process and evaluation activities and make effective oral and written presentations.
Master’s Degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related academic discipline.
Five or more years working directly with college subject matter experts in the development of courses.
Systematic instructional design process for electronic learning environments.
Multimedia and interactive learning experience.
Experience with Moodle and Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Familiar with ADA compliance, accessibility issues and universal design principles.
Experience with Quality Matters and the Sloan C Quality Scorecard.
Exceptional project management skills; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to maintain currency with emerging technologies.
Research background in a related academic discipline.
