The Associate Director, University Relations and Campus Outreach is responsible for all marketing and outreach efforts of Boston University Study Abroad (BUSA). This position is responsible for the strategic development and management of relationships within Boston University and with BU's partner institutions. Under the direction of the Director, Enrollment Services, the Assoc. Director will develop and implement a recruitment and communication strategy for BUSA programs in coordination with the University's overall efforts and BUSA's strategic plans. The Associate Director leads a team of three staff members within the larger Enrollment Services team.
Develop a comprehensive strategic plan to achieve the recruitment goals for BUSA and individual study abroad programs, including development of BUSA's communication, public relations and outreach strategy within the University and with other higher education institutions. Manage annual marketing budget accordingly.
Interview, hire, train, supervise and annually review Sr. Manager, University Relations & Campus Outreach, University Relations & Campus Outreach Manager and Institutional Representative and set priorities and align team resources, effort, and assignments to achieve the objectives and goals of the BUSA strategic plans and the individual's professional development
Using available data, perform analyses and track effectiveness of integrated strategic marketing and communication plans and publication for Study Abroad, including themes, strategies, tactics, deliverables and timelines over multiple years to make informed decisions about the direction of BUSA's marketing and public relations. Undertake a comprehensive annual review of BUSA's recruitment efforts and assess the needs of BUSA's constituencies. Periodically assess the strategy and its ongoing effectiveness and adjust as needed, including with respect to specific marketing and advertising techniques. Coordinate with supervisor and Study Abroad executive team on internal and external matters that may affect recruiting, e.g. program development, changes in academic expectations, etc. Develop a systematic way of communicating outreach activities with BUSA.
Lead and manage all promotional activities, including media relations and internal communications. Analyze and develop a strategy for digital presence of BU Study Abroad, including social media and digital advertising. Build and foster relationships with outside advertising vendors to increase the visibility of BUSA's presence in the Study Abroad market, including but not limited to, JCDecaux bus and T-stop shelters, off-campus newspaper and publications, third-party websites (i.e. study abroad search engines); negotiate contracts with said companies.
Oversee all collaborations and engagements, including scheduling for all on-campus and external recruiting visits; provide leadership and training for recruiters as well as site staff visitors; represent BUSA as spokesperson to faculty, administrators and students at industry conferences, professional forums, networking events, on-campus events and with partner institutions throughout the United States as needed.
As a member of the Enrollment Services Leadership team and regular contributor to the Executive Team, support Director, Enrollment Services in developing, implementing and enforcing Study Abroad enrollment policies, procedures, strategic plans, goals and recommendations. Back-up to direct reports when their primary back-ups are absent or when a position is vacant, and on occasion back-up to other ES Leadership team members.
Minimum master degree in higher education, public relations, communications, or related field.
8 to 10 years of professional experience in higher education with a record of increasing responsibility.
Supervisory experience required.
Ability to develop, implement and execute strategic marketing and recruitment plans.
Ability to set and monitor priorities in order to meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to clearly and persuasively communicate concepts and ideas, garner respect and confidence of leadership, and produce results in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
Demonstrated command of writing across a broad spectrum of platforms and editing skills.
Knowledge of Boston University desirable.
