Shape the Future of Aviation! This is an exciting and challenging position with the opportunity to lead improvements to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) National Airspace System (NAS), and to guide the development of emerging concepts for the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).
The successful candidate will provide aviation-related technical expertise, perform analyses, and be able to communicate these ideas to a variety of audiences. The candidate will understand new air traffic management concepts, the changes to existing systems that will be necessary to support them, and provide expertise in the architecture and integration of those capabilities and systems. In addition, the candidate will provide project management support such as project strategic planning, program lifecycle support activities, schedule, and integration with other related programs. The candidate will also lead the successful completion and delivery of many work products, coordinating across team boundaries as appropriate.
Provide technical expertise on Air Traffic Management (ATM) and the National Airspace System (NAS) systems operations and systems engineering expertise in concept development & evaluation
Provide expertise on system architecture and integration, requirements development, system planning
Coordinate activities, and prepare briefings and communicate with a variety of audiences, from technical teammates to high level FAA stakeholders
Collaborate with a broad team of experts with a diverse set of skills to support demonstration efforts and project marketing
BS or higher in an engineering or equivalent technical field from a US accredited institution (FAA Air Traffic Controller experience can be substituted)
10+ years professional engineering experience (advanced degrees may be substituted)
Prior experience working with aviation, FAA, or NextGen programs / projects
Knowledge with the NAS systems (e.g. ERAM, ATOP, TBFM, TFMS) and advanced ATM concepts (e.g. TBO, Time-Based Metering, SWIM, DataComm)
Ability to work independently and within a team environment, and take on multiple roles
Experience or knowledge of NextGen program lifecycle process, inclusive of project planning, tracking and budgeting process
Experience with the FAA AMS lifecycle process
Knowledge of software systems, open source tools, system integration, and inter-system communications and messaging
