General Summary: The Director, Technical & Product Certification is the lead staff person in directing technical and product certification issues and projects. The director manages committees and workgroups in implementing priorities relating to technical standards, testing, research, and product certification issues. He/she also represents VSI on polymeric siding issues with standards-setting organizations, serves as a resource for technical information, and assists with other VSI projects needing technical expertise. The director also manages the product certification program administrator.
Determines, with the assistance of VPRA and direction of VSI members, the technical and product certification priorities for VSI.
Responsible for implementation of technical and product certification projects, gaining agreement on the objectives of each, forming workgroups of VSI members to complete each project, and leading the task groups to project completion.
Manages the Technical Committee and Certification Oversight Committee and their associated task groups to plan, implement, and oversee projects.
Demonstrates effective meeting management by planning and facilitating meetings, working with members and other stakeholders to assure appropriate attendance, designing processes, achieving consensus, and communicating meeting results through timely, concise, and accurate minutes and Action Items.
Reports to VSI committees and Board on projects and progress in the technical and product certification areas.
Initiates and manages VSI's technical and testing contracts.
Leads VSI initiatives at standards-setting meetings including leading VSI members so that they can be effective in ASTM proceedings.
Represents VSI at meetings of industry groups concerned with technical issues directly or potentially impacting polymeric siding.
Works with the Code Development Work Group to provide technical input and assistance with the code development process.
Works with the Communications Team to develop timely technical updates and messaging regarding polymeric siding.
Develops and monitors and manages program budgets (Technical & Product Certification) with assistance from VPRA.
Responds to technical inquiries regarding polymeric siding.
Keeps aware of environmental, fire, and safety issues impacting polymeric siding.
Assists in preparation for meetings and other VSI activities, as directed.
Works independently and fulfills responsibility with a proactive, rather than reactive, approach.
Demonstrates the highest ethical standards.
Adheres to all relevant VSI policies and procedures.
Provides excellent customer service to members and other staff at all times.
Demonstrates prudent management of VSI funds and resources.
Makes every effort to communicate status of projects, prioritize assigned tasks, and work with other staff members as part of an effective team.

Interacts with VSI staff, members, product certification program administrator, consultants, vendors, and other organizations, developing relationships that maximize the interests of the VSI membership and use of VSI funds. Implements sound financial management, demonstrates respect for quality, diversity, and teamwork, and focuses on VSI priorities.
Education: College degree in business, engineering, polymer chemistry, or technical discipline preferred.
Experience: Minimum of eight years of trade association and/or project management experience; construction, plastics industry, or related experience a plus.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of association management and/or project management. Experience with the plastics and/or construction industry desirable. Ability to effectively lead members by facilitating meetings, designing task group processes, and achieving consensus decision-making. Ability to travel, ability to speak in public, excellent interpersonal skills. Skilled in the use of computers, especially Microsoft Office package.
Autonomy: Must be comfortable working independently with issues and in travel work environments.
Must be able to prove eligibility to work.
