The Center for Career Services is GW’s central career services office that helps students realize and advance their career and professional goals. Through personal career coaching, professional interpretations of career assessments, specialized industry coaching and events, along with student employment and employer development programs, they connect students with premier internship and job opportunities with top-tier employers. This position will be responsible for the following:
Oversee the ongoing employer development and relations functions of the Center, including establishing, monitoring, and evaluating targets for service delivery and employer engagement. Ensure a high-quality and diverse array of on- and off-campus employer engagement opportunities managed by the employer relations staff. Guide employer development consultant staff in enhancing relationships with current employers, establishing relationships with new employers, and connecting employer engagement with career development activities in the Center and other career centers at GW.
Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, university-wide strategy for employer development and relations activities. Ensure coordination and alignment of employer outreach and branding activities and services, consistent and comprehensive employer education about GW and its students and alumni and coordinated tracking and management of employer relationships across all career centers at GW. Assess and enhance technological resources for employer services, including recruiting and customer relationship management platforms.
Establish and enhance collaborative, university-wide partnerships involving employers, Center for Career Services staff distributed to host schools, other career centers at GW, individual faculty and staff members and alumni and families, and relevant GW units to include Development and Alumni Relations, International Education, and academic departments. Ensure seamless, high-quality, relationships with employers, appropriate collaboration around information sharing and technological and human resources, and development of and compliance with professional standards, practices, and processes for recruitment and career services.
Supervise, directly or indirectly, 5 regular full-time staff members. Conduct unit and individual staff meetings to continually develop and strengthen unit and sub-unit functions and staff members’ professional capacities. Supervision may be exercised, indirectly or directly, over 1-5 undergraduate and graduate students and/or temporary consultants or contract staff supporting the employer services function. Additional supervision may be exercised over alumni, family, and employer volunteers involved with employer services activities.
Serve on GW’s Career Services Council and the Center for Career Services (CCS) Leadership Team to shape and support strategic and operational goals for the CCS team, including establishing, monitoring, and evaluating performance goals and managing and allocating budgets, materials, and other resources. And support initiatives in other units including Career Learning & Experience, Student Employment, and Operations.
Serve on university committees, boards, task forces, and cross-functional teams as requested.
Enhance professional expertise and relationships, the visibility of CCS, employment and internship opportunities, and employer engagement through attendance at conferences and seminars, service to professional organizations, review of current literature and electronic resources, and networking within and outside the university.
This position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Progressively responsible experience in employer relations or development, college relations or recruiting, human resources, project or event management, higher education, student affairs, business, career services, customer service, sales, marketing or related fields.
Demonstrated experience and success as a supervisor and customer service-oriented leader who fosters collaboration and produces results in a complex environment. Experience and interest in working with employers and college students, particularly undergraduates.
Appreciation for, and experience with, working and managing strategically in a collaborative, team-oriented environment while also having the ability to take initiative and work independently. Knowledge of and experience with professional standards, practices, and processes for recruitment and career services.
Technical skills, particularly with Handshake or other career services management systems, LinkedIn, and other social media tools, along with the ability to learn and utilize other systems, applications, and tools. Program, event, and project management experience in a matrix and team-based structure.
Demonstrated ability to work across diverse groups and contribute to inclusivity in the campus community. Strong communication, presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Experience with strategic planning and program evaluation and administration. Experience managing and allocating budgets and other resources.
Strong administrative and organizational capacity and attention to detail.
